European blood takes place (more and more) in North America
The post positions are drawn for the eliminations of the $1,2 million Hambletonian Stakes on Saturday, August 5th. All you need to know about the race you will find in this HRU article. Our goal as pedigree buffs is to illuminate the unbelievable interesting (some breeders may call it exotic from the American point of view ...) pedigrees of this year´s Hambo contenders. The two French invaders are Love You and Ready Cash, both multiple sire champions in many European countries.

All horses originate from North American paternal and maternal lines.
5 horses: Muscle Hill
4 horses: Andover Hall
2 French stallions (the other 100% Standardbred blood):
Love You: 57% Standardbred blood – 43% French blood (Sire of International Moni, damsire of Shake It Off Lindy)
Ready Cash: 46% Standardbred blood – 54% French blood (Sire of Tony Gio, the first Italian bred contender in the Hambo Stakes History)
In 2012, Market Share won the Hambletonian Stakes. His sire is the Swedish bred Revenue, who´s father Reve d`Udon was French and originated from the French stallion Reynolds (1873). But Reynolds himself was out of an American maternal line (Lady Pierce). Anyway, Market Share was the first Hambletonian winner not bred by an American stallion.
Paternal lines in the Hambletonian 1926 – 2016
The résumé must therefore be that after decades of futile attempts to allow French blood to flow into the speed-dominated North American trotting, a small revolution could now take place with the penetration of the two best representatives of the Anglo-Norman trotting race. Both International Moni and Victor Gio will be suitable as Stallions and could open again the American breed, which was narrowed on the lines of Valley Victory and Garland Lobell (with a little Star's Pride/Super Bowl influence over Credit Winner and his sons). One can also be curious about how Sebastian K is doing, and the influence of the Swedish Menhammar Stuteri, who imports frozen semen of her stallions to America (that topic), will also be pointed out in the future.
While
the dominance of Muscle Hill is no longer a surprise (in the Hambo Oaks his daughters represents half the starter field), 4 starters from Andover Hall
(also two times damsire) are remarkable. The now 18-year-old son of Garland Lobell surpasses his best son Donato Hanover by far in this year in Hambo.
Chapter Seven is the father of two horses, painful of course is the
absence of his injured son Walner, which was regarded as a heavily pre-favorite for this Hambo edition (which, although originating from the Garland-Lobell line, could also open the American trotting breed a little).
